We've nicknamed this the 'bum fruit'.

It's heavy and would certainly do some damage if one happened to fall on your noggin.
Any ideas?

It smells not unlike a quince, but I have no idea if it's edible. It's not alone, not a mutant, they all look like that.

Snap I don't know what kind of fruit it is but you certainly wouldn't want it growing out your a**. I'm sure someone will put a name to it. The fruit would make a lovely alternative Halloween lantern.
@Martyn I hadn't considered that it could grow out of you know what and on reflection, I think I should rename it the 'hemorrhoid fruit' ;) OUCH!
Hi Snap, I've no idea. My wife is a country girl and she has no idea either. If nobody else claims it then you may have discovered a new fruit; just check firs to make sure that 'bum fruit' isn't taken :-)
@Paul Garrigan Thanks so much for trying to identify it. I'd certainly take credit for the new discovery, but would just have to find someone willing to test its edibility! ;)
I think it might be an elephant apple. That's what they call something similarly buttocksy in Malaysia. Is the texture kind of tough, and skin too?
@Theodora You're right! Dillenia indica or Elephant fruit. It's even more strange on the inside it seems. http://toptropicals.com/cgi-bin/garden_catalog/cat.cgi?uid=Dillenia_indica
I'd even posted a photo on a gardening forum, but nobody had come to my rescue as yet...I wish I had a prize to give you ;)
