Leaving Khon Kaen to Nong Khai, in our hire car (ex-Pattaya)...obviously, I'm the back seat driver.
Our hotel in Nong Khai, the Mekong Guesthouse. Wonderful! The room was spacious, nice...but, a tip, don't stay on the ground floor...Thai plumbing/drainage, not so good, lol.

It's been well over a year since I updated our blog...LIFE certainly does take a hold!!!
Rather than try to recollect the minor details, I'll be uploading pictorials, and minor details, from then until now :)
We left off on our road trip through Thailand. Since then we've been to Myanmar, and back to one of our favourite haunts, Vietnam.

8 - 9 th Feb, 2013
With Pak Chong literally behind us, we had roughly 230 km in front of us before we’d reach Khon Kaen. The roads themselves in Thailand are good, however, as we all know the traffic rules and load limits can be another story.
Being sugar cane harvest time many of the trucks are filled higher than high. On two occasions during our trip, we witnessed trucks that had come Snaphttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15800305875871746333noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5280676010616714093.post-74676313784588641532013-03-16T16:04:00.001+07:002013-03-16T16:36:50.192+07:00When Tripadvisor won't advise - Happiness Guesthouse
For quite a few years I've gathered valuable information from tripadvisor.com and contributed what I could, myself. Even adding unlisted hotels and guesthouses to their list. To do that, you must provide as much detail about said establishment, as possible.
However, after sending specifics about the Happiness Guesthouse and a great hotel in Khon Kaen, I was politely rejected and given Snaphttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15800305875871746333noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5280676010616714093.post-90635056748997215822013-03-05T14:25:00.000+07:002013-03-05T14:33:12.402+07:00Road trip - Pattaya to not quite Nakhon Ratchasima
Initially this was going to be a motorcycle ride, with five of us on four largish bikes...I don't ride. However, circumstances dwindled us down to three and the fact that Australian travel insurance companies are unwilling to cover motorcyclists in Thailand, left us hiring a car.
Personally I was OK with this, I don't mind a comfortable seat, aircon and shelter from the elements. After arming myself with a few Thailand map apps and battling with my near non existent GPS location...why wouldn't I pursue a GPS tracking program?! Apparently women's oestrogen plays havoc with our 'spatial intelligence'. Regardless, I love maps and have no problem reading them or navigating...Stray would beg to differ because I do have difficulty determining which deck I'm on or which side I'm on when travelling on ships. Way back in March...
By airport hotel, I mean one physically in the airport or one close enough to take a shower, grab a bite to eat and have a short sleep before your next flight...when it's just way to long to window shop the duty free stores and drink expensive or bad coffee.

Way back in March
Firstly, my apologies for the misspelling of Melaka/Malacca in previous posts...all amended now. Apparently my version was a tad unsavoury!
Beautiful Melaka was the last destination on this trip, apart from an airport hotel stay on our last night. As mentioned in the previous post, our hotel was a delight and well situated.

Way back in March
The reason the beach area of Langkawi Island may have been so quiet, even though it was school holidays, is that all the holiday makers were most likely at Panorama Langkawi!
Stray and I and Co. hired some scooters, but they latter stayed behind this day. So, we made the pleasant ride out to the cable car, just the two of us.

From Penang to Langkawi may have been the shortest flight we've ever taken...but I'll have to research that a little further. In stark contrast, the island is quiet and sleepy and HOT!

The Hill and Kek Lok Si
7th - 10 Mar 2012
Penang Hill is a short 6 km bus ride out of Georgetown and
the top, reachable by funicular. It’s a slow, very steep ride in parts…kind of like my
blog writing efforts of late. The track is just under 2 km long and in places the climb is nearly 28 degrees.
The views from just over 820 metres above sea level are
quite nice, overlooking the channel between the island and Snaphttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15800305875871746333noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5280676010616714093.post-77157651893889918982012-04-27T19:13:00.000+07:002012-04-27T19:13:00.096+07:00Georgetown, Penang - Part 1
7th - 10 Mar 2012
Penang’s much bigger and more populated than I thought it
would be. The airport was, and no doubt still is, undergoing some major renovations…but we eventually found the exit to catch a public bus into
Georgetown.

I'm not sure why this hotel is under the heading of a B & B/Inn on Tripadvisor...it's a hotel!
We
had been booked in at Sary's Guesthouse for months prior, having made
arrangments directly, with Sary by emails. All was going well until they failed to collect us

Anyone who knows us, or this blog, will know that we love our food. Especially finding new dishes or ingredients, we’ve never seen or tried before and eating them. During the 9 days we spent in Cambodia we were able to discover a few, as well as take part in a cooking class in Phnom Penh.

Driving into Phnom Penh, the term ‘in your face’ comes to (my) mind. It’s part in ruins, part being built/rebuilt and part new. If you're planning on travelling from Sihanoukville to Phnom Penh, by bus, you have several options of companies to choose from. We chose 168, only because the staff at Zana House said that they were new...or perhaps they meant that the buses were new...or looked new. Ours was just fine.
