So we came all the way back, just to go back - Cambodia

We've been back in Oz for just over one month now. Happy to say Mr Bundy's ears are still intact, minus the points (Solar Dermatis, fancy name for my cat can't tolerate the sun. So he's doomed to a life of zinc cream coated ears). And, I've given into the fact that I WILL have to move more than two chairs and a bed back into the house and have started to do so. Can see a big garage sale coming up soon...more culling.

Stray's undone the termite damage, bar the aesthetic touches. But, I'm still pretending that the upstairs doesn't exist, even though I can safely walk up the steps. Less cleaning that way.

OK, getting to the point! Cambodia, especially Angkor Wat just outside of Siem Reap, was one of the places we intended on visiting while being so close, in Thailand. But, one thing lead to another and we never got there. So, we're heading off early next year to see that, Phnom Phen and Sihanoukville. All via Malaysia where we'll stop off in Georgetown (Penang), Langkawi and Melaka
.

Batu Caves outside of Kuala Lumpur
Sabah (Kota Kinabalu, Borneo) fishing boats
Kuching (Sarawak, Borneo) riverfront
We've visited Kuala Lumpur a couple of times, and Borneo, and our plans are fairly well set in jelly ...but if you've been to any of these places and can recommend 'what to see's' and 'what to do's' (or not) apart from what's on the usual tourist spiels, please do!

I've been to Penang two or three times and I like it a lot. There are some photos here: http://www.danploy.com/travels.htm#Penang

The first time I stayed at the Equatorial hotel, http://www.equatorial.com/pen/, which was lovely but a little away from the main events, (if anything can be called away from anything on such a small island).

The seafood was fantastic.

Your life is just given to pleasure isn't it!

@DanPloy thanks so much for the links...every bit of information helps in our planning.

LJ, or Number 2 (daughter) as I like to call her, will be thrilled to hear that the seafood is great. We love it also, but she'd knock you down to get to a Fisherman's basket, 555.

Life of pleasure...sounds good to me. so long as it's cheap!

'she'd knock you down to get to a Fisherman's basket'

Is that a euphemism?

@DanPloy No, she literally would. And, by Fisherman's basket, I mean a plate of mixed seafood ;)

LOL wondered how long it would take before you were escaping again.

@Jules escaping...hmmm, good word ;) It's amazing how cheap we can travel, as long as we're willing to suffer Air Asia and hunt down their specials! Won't have any sleeping tablets this time around, maybe a rubber mallet will suffice.

Siem Reap - nice! I'm going back in March. Btw - there's a TexMex sort of place right on the main drag. They make a mean bucket of margaritas and the weirdest, tastiest nachos ever.

@Catherine Bugger, I'll probably just miss you...but will email you my dates. Thanks for the heads up on the buckets, maybe we can share one ;)

Sharing a bucket (or three) would be grand :-)

And before I forget... Happy Holidays!

Snap - I have stood in Cambodia once before, on a visa run from Pattaya. My friend and I only got 50 yards or so past immigration when a man came up to us and said 'You want lady for boom boom, only 500 baht', I guess he quoted the figure in Thai money because of the direction we came from. That was as far as we got, we headed back to a bar/restaurant on the Thai side.

Have a great Christmas and best wishes from the UK.

@Martyn judging by the hotel and booking websites, there's a big problem with prostitution and human trafficking in Cambodia. First time I'd seen warnings about who isn't and is allowed in your hotel room! Apart from Vietnam, where you have to be 'married' to share a room.

You have a wonderful Christmas too. Mine could be a little better though...nursing a broken foot, ouch! And a Happy New year.

A broken foot?

I hope the cat's backside is on the mend too.

@Martyn I suspect it's broken...it didn't take kindly to me dropping a cast iron BBQ plate onto it :(

The cat's bum should be fine so long as it's not exposed to sunlight, like his ears are, lol.
