It's been a while since we visited our friends just outside of Chiang Rai, so it was a nice change (again) from Chiang Mai's tourist scene. We did, however, have dinner in town at the restaurant right in the centre of the night bazaar, a couple of times. Nice meals, great company and some good and bad entertainment up on stage.
A spot of fishing at Khieng Doi Fishing Park, resort and restaurant.
One caught catfish. |
How am I meant to catch any, if your feeding them loaves of bread over there? |
One of my favourite dinners, pork gratha (or pork pan). I think I like it so much because evey one cooks there own ;)
A tokay gecko (aptly named ตุ๊กแก - dtook gaae, because that's one of the incredibly loud noises they make) looking on. Like this, but with the acoustics of a being inside a drain pipe.
On the way to Chiang Rai International University. This truck just couldn't quite make it under the electrical wires, without a little help from above.
The beautiful view from the university.
Mum Nong Nong's even quieter retreat up in the hills.
And more eating!
I don't smell...it just looks that way. |

I have happy memories of eating at that Night Bazaar restaurant in CR a few times. It's great fun.
@Peter_M The restaurant certainly offers a vast variety of reasonably priced meals, doesn't it. There is a food court close by, with entertainment also, but we didn't have time to investigate.
Didn't realise that CR was that big, those geckos are much bigger than the little guys we get here and a lot noisier.
@jcj57 CR is quite big, as are some of the cities we passed through on the way to Laos...I was quite surprised.
Yes, those guys are quite big and can be a little nasty...but they are pretty! Noisy! You don't want one outside your bedroom window at night.
Oh I really want to visit Chaing Rai. It sounds like you guys have such a great time up there. The food sounds incredible- the picture of you guys attacking the grill pot make me incredibly miss home :)
Ah you got a shot of my old friend gecko! I was horrify of those things when I was a kid... especially at night when they made scary noise!
Looks like another successful trip up north! Thanks for sharing :)
Great pic of Stray w/ the fish!!
Mostafa, thanks for visiting and I love the photos on your blog...one day I may get to Egypt, if I'm lucky!
Lani, Stray and fish (and golf) go together.
Tes, our next visitor to Thailand gets to take home to grill pots for us :) less the clay cook pots of course...way too much baggage!
